چکیده
This paper presents the results of finite-element simulations leading to development a design method using direct strength (DSM) for transversely loaded thin-walled steel beams prone local and distortional buckling failures at elevated temperatures. The systematic extensive numerical parametric study covers different dimensions sections, temperature distributions in cross-section, grades load ratios. main findings are that DSM is suitable members with non-uniform cross-section. Based on plastic moment capacity cross-section temperatures, equations existing specification by American Iron Steel Institute, as published 2016, sufficiently accurate buckling. For buckling, set new proposed. proposed then used derive partial safety factors structural resistance conditional probabilities failure 0.1, 0.01 0.001 after flashover.

متن کاملLocal Buckling Tests on Cold-Formed Steel Beams
C and Z sections are two of the most common cold-formed steel shapes in use today. Accurate prediction of the bending performance of these sections is important for reliable and efficient cold-formed steel structures. Recent analytical work has highlighted discontinuities and inconsistencies in the American Iron and Steel Institute ~AISI! and Canadian Standards Association ~S136! design provisi...
متن کاملDistortional Buckling Tests on Cold-Formed Steel Beams
Failure in cold-formed steel beams is generally initiated by one of three instabilities: local, distortional, or lateral-torsional buckling. For cold-formed steel joists, purlins, or girts, when the compression flange is not restrained by attachment to sheathing or paneling, distortional buckling may be the predominant failure mode. Experimental results on cold-formed steel beams with unrestrai...

The objective of this paper is to explore the potential impact of the use of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) to form traditional cold-formed steel structural members. In this study, shell finite element models are constructed, and geometric and material nonlinear collapse analysis performed, on simulated lipped channel cross-section cold-formed steel members roll-formed from AHSS. AHSS shee...
